This product appears to be a less poisonous vinyl variation because it is non-chlorinated (contains no chloride). Therefore, items made from PEVA are considered a much healthier alternative to PVC products.
PEVA is used in countless household products such as:
- shower curtains

Is PEVA safe?
This is where the topic gets a bit challenging. Considering what we currently understand regarding this type of plastic, it can undoubtedly be considered a less toxic option to PVC.
So while this may give you some satisfaction when buying a product that contains polyethylene vinyl acetate, you should be aware that it still has other chemicals that can be dangerous to human health. Some studies suggest that PEVA is, in fact, poisonous to some living organisms.
It is impossible to make a clear statement on this concern because many of the chemicals found in this petrochemical have not yet been adequately tested for harmful influences on human health.
We know that this material is free of phthalates, which are “predicted human carcinogens.”
So while little is known about ethylene vinyl acetate poisoning, based on readily available evidence, PEVA is a less unsafe material than PVC.
Our advice regarding items containing PEVA is to use them with care. It is always an excellent practice to be familiar with the material your items are made of and what unfavorable influences these materials may have on your health.
