Utilizing USB OTG without the need for soldering cables is a more efficient approach. Instead of resorting to hardware modifications, the key lies in implementing software solutions. By following instructions from muru, the process can be simplified significantly. Let’s opt for the easier route to achieve our goal.
I believed that dedicating a full hour of my time to this task was worthwhile. Therefore, today I have developed a new application that allows you to easily switch your device (N800 or N810) between USB Host and USB OTG modes.
All you require is a USB A female to female adaptor, which can be purchased for a minimal cost. Once you have obtained the USB adaptor, proceed to install ukmp from the Garage. Please note that this version is currently in beta, so you may need to install ukmp first from maemo.org. ukmp, my media player, now includes uktube (YouTube downloader) and USBControl.
To complete the process, access USBController from your extras menu, click on HOST, connect the USB cable and a keyboard, and you’re all set. No additional steps are necessary. You can now open notes, xterm, or any other application and begin typing.
Alternatively, you can remove the keyboard and attach a memory stick. In my experience, wireless keyboards function perfectly without the need for a powered hub. However, one memory stick required more power than the device could provide. If your peripheral device requires additional power, simply insert a powered hub in between. It’s that simple.
