The Top Sim Racing Games for Consoles
The world of console gaming is getting bigger and bigger, with more processing power and higher graphic capacity. And, as you can imagine, game producers follow the trend, creating more immersive and impressive experiences.
While many players would rather be in an FPS or a complex MMORPG, I am passionate about the world of racing games (mostly because of the adrenaline rush it creates). The graphics are so advanced nowadays that sometimes when you truly focus on the game, the living room disappears, and you feel like in the driver’s seat.
But not all games are the same, so I think it’s best to have a look at the ones that are worth the praise. Below I listed the top 5 racing games I loved playing this year:
Forza Horizon 4
Beautiful, beautiful imagery and stunning graphic engine! Not to mention, you get the fantastic opportunity of driving some of the world’s dreamiest cars! Forza Horizon 4 is not about laps or circuits, it’s more about driving and the pleasure of mastering a powerful car.
This is an open world scenario, where you get to speed up onto the open roads of England. Honestly, I think it’s one of the best open-world racing games since the NFS series. Sadly, you can only play it if you have an Xbox One or an Xbox One X.
If you don’t have the console but you still want to enjoy the beautiful experience of driving, I recommend trying Madalin Stunt Cars 2. It’s a browser game so it will work on every device you have.
For Gran Turismo passionate, this year meant the end of a long waiting period. Finally, after four long years, GT released the Sport version for PS4. The game features 162 cars, lots of content, and 27 track layouts. But the fun doesn’t stop here!
The experience offered by GT Sport is considered one of the most immersing ones on a gaming console. This is true due to impressive graphics, gorgeous sounds, and a special mode called eSport. If you’re a racing game aficionado like me, GT Sport is a must-play!
While there is an F1 version for almost every year since the franchise is in business, the 2018 version is a bit more special. First, the quality is higher, you get to see more classic cars on the race track, and the single-player campaign is fantastically immersive.
The developer also changed the way the cars move (not by much, but enough) so the F1 2018 feels grittier and creates a more intense response in the player. The thing that I like most about this game is that it’s not pretentious; it works just as well on an Xbox, a PS4 or a PC.
Don’t tell you don’t enjoy a rally in bad weather from time to time! The DiRT Rallyreleased in 2018 is a masterpiece when it comes to creating almost real rally conditions. This means that the graphics are so good that you can almost feel the smell of the mud and you can hear it splash your windshield!
While there are not that many fancy cars to drive around, there are lots of options, from a different era. This means you can try your chances with a Lancia Group B rally car and when you get bored of it, you can jump in a BMW E30 3-series.
Furthermore, the game can be played in virtual reality mode – here’s where your PlayStation or PS4 VR headset show their worth! Considering the explosive experience, when you play the game in VR, this is one of the most realistic gaming experiences available on console!
A similar experience, but not at the same level, you can find in Moto X3M – another browser game that will work on any device.
If you want something that’s a real racing sim game, Assetto Corsa is perfect for you. The game works on both PS4 and Xbox One, and it features some very realistic handling. The sound is great, the graphics make it look amazing, and you have access to new DLC content quite often.
