Test Conclusion: What to know
The M5 lures unlike its predecessor M4 Aqua with plenty of upper-class technology such as 21-megapixel main and 13 megapixel front camera and Full HD display and memory card slot. A big jump compared to M4 there were also the price: With 380 euros Sony Xperia M5 is at least to launch not favorable and in terms of memory capacity the now cheaper Sony Z3 + inferior – as are approximately just over 8 gigabytes (GB) internal, nominally 16 GB memory. After all, can the M5 via micro SD card expand up to 200 GB. Thanks waterproof design and a total package without significant shortcomings, it is still a buy recommendation.
Bei Mercedes is the M-class for rugged outdoor companions the upper price range. At Sony, however, the M-models are an inexpensive alternative to the top smartphones of the Z-series. As the Mercedes is at least limited outdoor suitable Sony device thanks to waterproof housing. Important difference however is the price: For the cheapest Mercedes M-Class or the successor Mercedes GLE currently allowed 114 M5 smartphones (380 per euro) at (state: February 26, 2016). A cheap product is the new Sony Xperia M5 still not at all. On the contrary! The ULTIMATE-TECH-NEWS tester comes in noble gold optics. The robustness tests in ULTIMATE-TECH-NEWS test laboratory (fall and scratch test) survived the M5 without Mack. In addition, the Xperia is also against moisture damage deep water for up to 30 minutes prepared by immersion in up to 1.5 meters – thanks to protection class IP68.
Not everything that glitters is gold …
At first glance, the M5 is hardly of the noble Z class – about the Z3 + Sony and the top models Sony Z5 and Xperia X – to be distinguished: The same angular design, the same front and rear glass. Only on closer inspection noticed that the frame is not made of real metal, but plastic. Cheap the device does not work yet. Instead of gold, there is the M5 also in white and black.
Display Comparison: Sony M5 against Z5 and Xperia X
Unlike the more moderate predecessor equipped M4 Aqua Sony M5 has technically inherited some of the current Xperia-top models. First there is the screen: it is at 5.2 inches (diagonal: 13.2 centimeters) a good size, but not huge. Even for a one-handed operation this size is just about acceptable. And as the upper class models Z5 and Xperia X has the M5 a Full HD screen (1920×1080 pixels), which offers a high brightness (573.8 cd / m2). Sharpness and image quality of the M5 made a good impression in the test. The pixel density of the display is 440 ppi even slightly higher than the Z5 (428 ppi)nevertheless, falls in direct comparison with the Sony Z5 and the Xperia X: The display of the M5 looks a corner dark and falls not as brilliant from, for sunny days and detailed photo-considerations, it is therefore less suitable.
Driven by eight cores
In Xperia X10 M5 a processor from Mediate, an eight-cylinder or eight-core processor runs (frequency: 2 GHz). Camera: Sharp also selfies
The camera features to measure by the paper values produces the best Sony camera smartphones: On the back of a 21.5 megapixel camera works. By comparison, the Sony Z5 comes to 23 megapixels. In automatic mode, the camera shoots 16 megapixel images in 16: 9 format. With the trigger and storage time, the M5 is a good average: 0.55 seconds it takes until a photo is triggered after focusing – 0.88 seconds then again until it has stored the system. In the test, the camera of the M5 yielded quite ordinary images – even in unfavorable ambient light – but fell short of the brilliance and sharpness of the Sony Z5. In addition, the automatic exposure control was overwhelmed, as when shooting indoors with bright light sources. With the front camera contrast, Sony has given full throttle: With a 13-megapixel sensor, the resolution is twice as high as the flagship Z5. For Selfie fans the M5 also offers a lot of extra. The quality of the pictures is also decent. Only minimal noise and light over sharpening murky quality somewhat.
The Software: Android 5.1 with extras
Serves as the operating system – as described – the no longer quite fresh Android 5.1.After all, Sony has cribbed some extras with Samsung that will help in everyday life. So there is also a simplified mode with large icons and fonts, making the mobile Elderly suitable. Another practical feature is the so-called back light that matches Samsung’s Smart Stay function. Here the smartphone keeps turned on the backlight as long as you look at the display. The internal memory is approximately 8.6 gigabytes (nominally 16 gigabytes) just okay, but not huge sized. Unlike, say, the Samsung Galaxy S6 (the new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge Samsung has rectified) but can at least appeal to request a memory card (up to 200GB) for photos, videos, and music into the waterproof case. But apps can not be installed without any fuss on the memory card.
